Paul and Pat wedding 15/10/01Paul and Pat wedding 15/10/01
Many congratulations to Paul and Pat on their Wedding 15th October 2001.

The more observant of you may recognise the location from "The Bridges of Madison County" a film starring Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. Old romantic that he is, Paul took Pat to the setting of her favourite film to finally tie the knot.
The Grand Mardi Gras occasion was shared by Dick, Best Man and Diane who was a witness.
The wonders of technology, courtesy of John George, bring you these exclusive pictures within hours of the Happy Event!
Details of the honeymoon are sketchy but Talladaga was mentioned!

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 12 - Donnington 30 September 2001

With Duncan Vercoe unavailable because of business commitments, Joanna Clarke drove the second Mardi Gras Clio along side John George at Silverstone.

On Saturday John qualified 17th with Joanna 23rd. In the race John climbed to 10th on the first lap only to collide with Vince Martin at Priory. The heavy impact destroyed the tracking and he was forced to pull in after 6 laps with a shredded tyre.

Joanne drove steadily making places on the frantic opening lap to finish 16th.

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 10 - Oulton Park 20 August 2001

Oulton has not been a happy hunting ground for Mardi Gras this year!

After the engine and brake problems of the first round, earlier in the year, John George crashed, writing off a shell in the Wednesday test session. The team had a couple of sleepless nights rebuilding the car for Saturday's qualifying session. They were rewarded with John's best result of the year, 13th, after qualifying 22nd.

Duncan Vercoe in the other car was not so lucky. After qualifying 2nd, and leading for 5 laps, he went out of the race on the 10th lap when he spun into the gravel.

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 9 - Croft 12 August 2001

After qualifying 3rd on the grid, Duncan Vercoe was demoted to the back of the grid for a technical infringement. He fought through the field to finish 9th in a wet, incident packed race. John George was less fortunate. After qualifying ahead of Duncan in 19th place, John's race ended on the first corner when he was hit by Michael Johnson.

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 8 - Snetterton 4 August 2001

With both cars equiped with new headlights, the Clio's were night racing again at Snetterton. In a qualifying session on a drying track Duncan Vercoe qualified 5th and John George 22nd. The race was held in drizzle. Duncan dropped away and pulled in to the pits while 9th with a misted windscreen. John had an exciting race with several incidents in the slippery conditions finishing 16th.

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 7 - Knockhill 22 July 2001

Duncan had qualified 5th, on a circuit that he had not driven on until Saturdays qualifying, having missed the Friday test session.

John George had one of his best races of the season, qualifying 23rd and rising to 15th in the race.

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 6 - Donnington 1 July 2001

Duncan Vercoe at Donnington After qualifying fourth, Duncan Vercoe did well to avoid the melee at the old hairpin on lap one, to rise to third. Duncan held on till lap ten, of the twelve lap race, when a fast finishing Paul Rivett passed him at Fogartys, demoting him to a fourth placed finish.

John George's race was to be short lived when a brake problem saw him end up in the gravel trap on lap two.

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 5 - Silverstone 2 June 2001

Although untroubled until the end, running on slicks in the drizzle and dark was no fun.

Mardi Gras second runner John George finished seventeenth after qualifying in the same position. His progress was hampered by a spin on the first lap at Woodcote.

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 3 and 4 - Oulton Park 20 May 2001

Things did not start well when the van broke down on the way to Oulton!

At the Clio test, on the Thursday, Duncan Vercoe's engine blew, limiting track time and forcing him to use an under powered engine for qualifying on Saturday.

In the first race Duncan moved up from 7th on the grid and was fighting for 3rd when a brake problem caused him to run into David Gibson, forcing both into retirement. John George finishing 18th.

Starting from the rear of the grid in the second race Duncan rose to 14th before the recurring brake problem caused him to slip back finishing 20th with John George one place behind.

Not one of Mardi Gras's better week end's.

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 2 - Thruxton 7 May 2001

After qualifying second, Duncan Vercoe outpaced the pole sitter, Paul Rivett, to take a start to flag victory and a lead in the championship. John George avoided the first corner carnage to finish seventeenth.

ELF CLIO RENAULTSPORT UK CUP Round 1 - Brands Hatch 16 April 2001

Duncan Vercoe testing at Thruxton 19/04/01John George testing at Thruxton 19/04/01 Mardi Gras Motorsport had mixed results in the first round of the Clio championship. Duncan Vercoe was third, but John George was left stranded in the Paddock Hill gravel trap, after the "excitement" of the first corner.

From fourth on the grid, Vercoe rose to second at the first corner after Tim Mullen slid, causing the chain reaction down the field that sidelined George. It took three laps under the safety car to clear the debris.

From the restart Vercoe held second until lap 18 when Mullen's move at Druids saw Vercoe lose a place and narrowly avoid the gravel trap. The order stayed the same until the flag, Paul Rivett, Tim Mullen and Duncan Vercoe.

Mullen was not quite close enough to try for the lead and Vercoe lost ground as the brakes and tyres went off.
